What this topic asks you to be able to do
- carry out completing the square on the quadratic polynomial ax² + bx + c, then employ the resulting completed square form
- work out the discriminant of the quadratic ax² + bx + c and apply what it tells you
- solve quadratic equations as well as quadratic inequalities, each involving a single unknown
- solve two simultaneous equations by substitution when one is linear and the other is quadratic
- recognise and solve those equations in x that take the form of a quadratic in some function of x
