Newton’s laws of motion
What this topic asks you to be able to do
- apply Newton’s laws of motion to a particle in linear motion whose mass is constant and which is acted on by forces that are constant; these can include friction, the tension of an inextensible string and the thrust from a connecting rod
- use W = mg to link weight and mass
- solve simple problems in which a particle with constant acceleration, moving either vertically or along an inclined plane, is a suitable model
- solve simple problems in which a system of connected particles in motion is a suitable model
