Electromagnetic induction
What this topic asks you to be able to do
- define magnetic flux as the outcome of multiplying magnetic flux density by the area of cross-section taken perpendicular to the direction in which the flux density points
- recall and apply Φ = BA
- understand the idea of magnetic flux linkage and apply it
- understand and explain experiments which show: that an e.m.f. can be induced in a circuit by a changing magnetic flux; that the induced e.m.f. acts in a direction that opposes the change causing it; and which factors affect the magnitude of the induced e.m.f.
- recall Faraday’s and Lenz’s laws of electromagnetic induction and put them into practice
