Non-parametric tests
What this topic asks you to be able to do
- understand what is meant by a non-parametric test, and appreciate the circumstances in which such a test may prove helpful
- understand the ideas behind the sign test and behind the Wilcoxon signed-rank and rank-sum tests
- apply both a sign test and a Wilcoxon signed-rank test to data from a single sample when testing a hypothesis about a population's median
- apply, as the case requires, a sign test on paired samples, a Wilcoxon signed-rank test for matched pairs or a Wilcoxon rank-sum test, to test whether populations are identical
