What this topic asks you to be able to do
- Define speed as the distance covered in each unit of time
- State, then apply, the equation speed = distance / time
- State from memory the equation “average speed = total distance travelled / total time taken” and use it in calculations
- Define acceleration as how much the speed changes in each unit of time; also recall the equation “acceleration = change in speed / time taken” and use it
- Give the meaning of uniform acceleration and of non-uniform acceleration, and outline instances of each
- Sketch and plot distance–time and speed–time graphs, then interpret them
- Work out, from the shape of its distance–time graph, whether an object is accelerating, decelerating, moving at a constant speed or at rest
- Work out from a speed–time graph's shape whether an object has changing acceleration, has constant acceleration, has a constant speed or is at rest
