Group VII properties
What this topic asks you to be able to do
- Describe chlorine, bromine and iodine, the halogens of Group VII, as diatomic non-metals that show general trends going down the group, limited to: density increasing, reactivity decreasing
- State what the halogens look like at r.t.p.: bromine is a red-brown liquid, chlorine is a pale yellow-green gas and iodine is a grey-black solid
- Describe and account for the reactions in which a halogen displaces other halide ions
- Predict, from information supplied about them, the properties of the remaining Group VII elements
