What this topic asks you to be able to do
- Know that forces can alter the dimensions and form of an object.
- Define the spring constant as the force for each unit of extension; recall spring constant = force / extension and use it in calculations
- Plot and sketch load–extension graphs of an elastic solid and interpret them, and describe the experimental procedures used to produce them
- Define the limit of proportionality of a load–extension graph, use the term, and identify where this point lies on the graph (you do not need to understand the elastic limit)
